Is updating your website worth the trouble?

If you’re like most of us, you’re probably very proud of your current website and the thought of having to update it makes your head spin. This head-spinning is not unfounded; updating a website takes time, money and patience but websites are not like wine or cheese – they do not age well.

There are two facets to your website – the design and the content. Both facets need to reflect current trends whilst staying timeless and they need to reflect your business currently while simultaneously showing your customers how you want to grow. It’s all very contradictory and time-consuming, so is it really worth the trouble?

Our answer is YES!

If you read the following questions and find yourself unsure if your website is hitting the mark, it might be time to update your website.

1.  Is your website visually appealing and functional?

If it’s been a while since you updated your website, the chances are you’re running on an old platform. This means that your web pages could be loading slowly, not loading at all or the layout of the page may be completely different from how you originally designed it.

Long gone are the days of not judging a book by its cover – a messy, slow website could mean the loss of a client before you can even explain who you are.

2. Is your website optimised for mobile users?

Mobile browsing is so common that Google has expanded its “use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal” when it comes to search engine rankings.

Not only has Google altered its algorithm; many users are only accessing the Internet via their mobile devices. If your website is not mobile-friendly, a client could dismiss you out of hand and find one of your competitors with a mobile-friendly site. Don’t let your competitors have the upper hand – updating your website could be the key to boosting your business in a simple way.

3. Is your website showing up in search results?

On top of mobile-friendliness, Google also uses keywords and links and bounce-rates to determine who sits on the first page of the search results. Rest assured that if your business is not sitting on that first page, you could be missing out on valuable clients.

4. Are there features on your current site that aren’t being used by your customers?

Is your current website cluttered with ignored content or unused links? If so it could be time for an update. Minimalism is not just a design trend; it’s also a method to make sure your clients can find the information they need easily. When a site has unnecessary information or tools, readers can simply decide to put your website in the too hard basket and look elsewhere for their solution.

5. Have you updated any information on your website in the last month?

If the last time your updated any content on your website was over a month ago, you are sending out a message to your potential customers and it might not be the message you want to send.

When you actively update your blog, latest news section, events page and social media, you’re showing your readers that you are a busy and active business. This way, they can’t turn away because your content’s stale.

Updating your website is all about giving your clients a reason to stay, have a look around and ultimately, choose you. If you want to know more about how you can update your website to reflect your business accurately, contact Incredible Communications now on +61 414 711 107.
